Be Social - Get In Touch - Be A Part of Festival Friendly!

ff_banner.jpgFestival Friendly - Forum
Our forums were just put online last week and we are really excited to have these online now. Please register and join in on a discussion. We have already been fortunate to have a handful of really active and enthusiastic members. So exciting folks!

Festival Friendly - Myspace
We do in fact have our very own Myspace Profile. We have been fortunate enough to get a really great response from festival fans on Myspace. We seem to be getting new Friend Requests on a regular basis. Please keep adding us!

In time we will be adding some various tools and functionality to our Myspace Profile that will help as another resource for information on Festivals.

Festival Friendly - Facebook
We currently have a Facebook Group. I am not sure if this is available to everyone - as I noticed this is an actual Network on Facebook. Let us know if you have problems joining! We have had several photos added to our gallery there.

Festival Friendly - Flickr
This was our first group we created to help establish our presence online. As of today, our Flickr group has grown to 61 Members and our Photo gallery has a staggering 658 photos already. That's not bad for only creating the group about two months ago.

We are aware of several other avenues and websites that we can create accounts to help promote the site. In time, we hope that we don't have to rely on these sites to help get visitors. For now though - please check them out and add us as a friend on Myspace, or contribute to our Flickr group.

Most importantly though - sign up in for our forum and start contributing. We are growing already!

This selection for Photo of the Week is from one of the stops on Warped Tour 08'. The photo was contributed to our flickr group by ignite the sky.

I really enjoyed this photograph because it shows the perfect connection between the artist on stage and the fans in the crowd - at least that is what it makes me think of.

Have a great weekend everyone!

HeadCount is a non-partisan organization established in 2004 by a group of individuals who believed that the music community as a whole has the potential to be a politically influential force if properly represented.

HeadCount was established as a grass roots organization by music industry professionals, and artists, but the core of HeadCount is the volunteers that make HeadCount so successful each year.

HeadCount175x350staticRTV.gifThe co-chairmen of the organization are Marc Brownstein, the bass player of The Disco Biscuits, and Andy Bernstein, the author of the Phish fan guide The Pharmer's Almanac. The board of directors includes Bob Wier from The Dead, Al Schnier of moe., as well as the people behind Relix Magazine, JamBase, and Bonnaroo, etc.

HeadCount is a non-for-profit organization therefore they rely on donations and merchandise sales to support the operations. Majority of their donations and funds come from performing artists and artist-based charitable foundations.

HeadCount is in need of volunteers across the country especially at music festivals this summer; so if you are interested in volunteering please follow this link.

Festival Friendly would like to encourage everyone who can vote, to vote. For my generation, this is one of the most important times for people to be active in the democratic process.

We are fortunate to have an organization like HeadCount out on the concert and festival tour helping to get people involved. Thank you!

I have uploaded the first initial batch of photos to a flickr set for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival 2008. Check it out here!

demf_2008.gifSorry for the complete disregard for updates or notifications - but we have been in Detroit for Memorial Day weekend at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival.

Look for a plethora of photos and videos from the event to be uploaded this week. I am still sore from dancing and staying up until the wrong hours of the morning.

I hope everyone had an awesome Memorial Day weekend - there were so many festivals going on!

Search Functionality

| | TrackBacks (0)

We have gotten our search functionality on the site fixed. Our previous search was working without much success and couldn't search our own information.

We are now using our standard search and it works perfectly. Please try it out if you are trying to find information about any music festival you might think of. Hopefully we have covered it for you already!

I would like to welcome Robert to the Festival Friendly family. Robert is a long time friend of mine and will be joining the ranks to help with content creation for the site.

For now, I am going to have Robert helping with Photo of the Week selection as well as re-structuring our standard interview that we send along each week.

I have known Robert since I was in elementary school. Over the next couple of months I will hopefully have Robert taking over all of the news entries so that I can move on to some other goals that we have for the site.

Please welcome Robert to Festival Friendly!

I am running behind today on posting this update - I apologize. My actual job is keeping me extremely busy so I don't have much time to step away and take a break at this point.

Regardless, it's Monday - and Festival Friendly is making another Photo of the Week selection.

This photo was submitted to our flickr pool by Ryanwiz. I chose this photo because of it's subject - a Jerry Garcia shrine at a music festival. I think this fits in perfectly with Grateful Dead's announcement that was made last week.  Check out the selection below.

 potw_no9_thumb.jpg

I will be making an effort to contact Ryanwiz and hopefully get a short interview and questions online for everyone to read.

We definitely won't turn down any direct submissions though for Photo of the Week. If you would like to submit your own photo or make a suggestion please feel free to send us an e-mail to mail@festivalfriendly.com.

Gareth Hacking has written us back with his short-interview. We picked the photo below for this past week's Photo of the Week. "Got mud?" Check out the interview below!

potw_no7_thumb.jpg

What were you trying to capture in this shot (If anything at all)?

I was trying to capture the sheer muddiness of last year’s Glastonbury. There was a camping stall right next to these bins, so people had been buying new Wellingtons and then dumping their wrecked one’s here.

How long have you been behind a camera?

I've been interested in photography for about 7 years now on and off, but have only really been getting into it more over the last year and a half after I purchased my first digital SLR.

Do you prefer a certain brand of gear?

I've tended towards Canon so far.

What is your favorite piece of gear that you own?

It’s my Canon 350D. It’s been good to me so far though it has taken a bit of a battering. I really should take more care of it.

Do you find it troubling to carry equipment around at festivals and still have a decent amount of mobility?

Yes, I came close to losing my 350D to the Glastonbury mud on more than one occasion. I'm in the process of finding myself a decent point and shoot for this year's festivals.

With that said, what do you normally carry with you at a festival?

I normally carry my 350D body with a EF-S 18 - 55mm lens.

I made some slight adjustments to our Myspace Profile last night. I removed all of the photos and instead place all of our current Festival Friendly Festival Profiles in the side-bar where our Interests are.

This actual fits perfectly and extends our resources onto Myspace. Check out the image below, add us to your friends, comment us - do whatever you please!

Enjoy the rest of your week!

On this Monday we step into our seventh consecutive Photo of the Week selection. I made my selection this morning from our flickr pool and chose this particular Photo for one reason only. It is full of mud!

potw_no7_thumb.jpgThis couldn't be more perfect since I just put up the Hookah in the Hills review and wrote about my experience there. My boots are still sitting in the garage with a solid 1/2" inch layer of dried mud on them.

Thanks to Gareth Hacking for submitting this photo. Please keep adding your photos to our flickr group. We should have our very own photo gallery within the next week or so. That way you won't have to ever leave Festival Friendly to see all of the photo-goodness.

Interview should be coming down the barrel soon!

We definitely won't turn down any direct submissions though for Photo of the Week. If you would like to submit your own photo or make a suggestion please feel free to send us an e-mail to mail@festivalfriendly.com.

Hookah in the Hills Review

| | TrackBacks (0)
hookah_in_the_hills.jpgMy Hookah in the Hills Review is finally online! I spent yesterday finishing the content and spent this morning adding images and formatting the write-up.

This is my first ever review of a music festival, concert, or anything of the sort. I normally journal for myself and for my eyes only - so hopefully over the course of this summer and the months after I will really start to get more experience writing this type of piece.

Once again, Hookah in the Hills (from April 4th & 5th) is now online. Please give it a read at the link below:
