Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival begain in 2004 - and has been held each year since. The word Wakarusa is a Native American term meaning ass-deep according to Wakarusa.com. In the Lawrence, Kansas area - where Wakarusa is held - it refers to the Wakarusa River. Oddly enough, the river is about ass-deep in depth.
Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival is located on the outskirts of Lawrence, Kansas. Lawrence is home to more than 26,000 college students as Kansas University is located here.
Wakarusa offers many activities for festival-goers including a Disc Golf course, The Drum Circle, morning Yoga sessions and even a giant lake for swimming.
Clinton Lake Park is roughly four miles away from Lawrence offers many opportunitues for fun. The park offers visitors the opportunity to swim, hik, bike, picknick and even hunting. Clinton Lake Park also includes facilities such as boat ramps, campgrounds, beaches, and a marina concession that provides a full line of marina services.
