Lollapalooza was originally a farewell tour for the band Jane's Addiction, by Perry Farrell, the singer. The tour was created by Perry in 1991 and ran until 1997. To some, Lollapalooza defined the American youth culture at the time just like Woodstock did for the 1960's. Lollapalooza did not return until 2003 and was forced to be canceled in 2004 because of poor ticket sales.
In 2005, Capital Sports Entertainment changed the format of Lollapalooza as it currently stands - a music festival in Grant Park in Chicago.
The resurrection of Lollapalooza brought the event to Chicago with more performers than it had ever had in the past. Since 2005, the festival has seen great success and has seen attendance over 65,000. On October 25, 2006 - an agreement was signed to keep Lollapalooza at Grant Park until 2011.
