A Possible Phish Reunion?

| | TrackBacks (0)

phish.jpgI ran across an interesting article today that was printed online by Reuters / Billboard. The article is short but offers some speculation and quotes about the members of Phish actually getting together later this year to talk about any possibilities for Phish in the future.

Page McConnell was even quoted as saying, "Recently the conversations have turned toward the possibility of spending some time together."

Phish formed in 1983 at the University of Vermont and performed together for over 20 years until breakin gup in August 2004.

I can only hope they will come back together and create another studio album.

Check out the article for a bit more information!

It has been a month since we have selected a new Photo of the Week. Robert began helping with this section and has since been on hiatus. We hope he is able to come back and help Festival Friendly out in the future.

The Photo of the Week was submitted to our Flickr group by ODDPEOPLE.net.The ODDPEOPLE.net has a really great photo stream - everyone should check it out.

They are a group of individuals who travel and capture images of people at festivals around the world. The image below is a classic Polaroid at a festival in London.

Bonnaroo Review @ HGMN

| | TrackBacks (0)

homegrownmusicnetwork_logo.jpgThe Home Grown Music Network has recently posted a great review with some photos from this years Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.

I really enjoy reading reviews from shows and festivals and seeing the photos that others have taken. The article and photos were both written by Bryan Rodgers.

I am not comfortable myself writing show reviews, album reviews, or festival reviews. I do not have much experience and wouldn't really know the best direction to take when writing this sort of material.

Regardless, I'm going to try and contact Bryan Rodgers for some tips and information - so look forward to something like that in the future.

voodoo_experience_logo.gifThe Voodoo Experience: The Tenth Ritual is set to kick off this October in New Orleans, Louisiana. The festival will run from October 24th thru the 26th.

The Voodoo Experience takes place at City Park in New Orleans behind the New Orleans Museum of Art. With that said - camping on site will not be an option at this festival.

The Voodoo Experience began in 1999 as a one day music festival and has since continued to grow and gain popularity each year.

Three day weekend passes are available online for $115.00 USD and can be purchased at the following website: Voodoo Experience Tickets

Click the continue for the full lineup and artist information.

HighSierraMusicFestival.jpgSingle day tickets are now available and on sale for the High Sierra Music Festival. The tickets are available to purchase for any day of the festival. Whether you want to attend on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday - the single day ticket will give you access for the day.

The only downside to these tickets is that they expire each day at 11PM. That means at 11PM you must leave and you would actually miss out on all the late night shows. I have to let my opinion slip on this one - that really doesn't make sense to me.

The 18th Annual High Sierra Music Festival is held annually in Quincy, California, July 3-6, 2008. The Festival is 4 days, 4 nights, and over 75 artists on 5 stages along with activities that suit everyone's idea of fun.

R.I.P. George Carlin

200pxGeorge_Carlin.jpgGeorge Carlin was my favorite comedian - he was someone who I respected quite a bit. There weren't many people I have come across in my lifetime who were as lyrical as he was. He could make me laugh in a way that no other person has been able to, ever.

George Carlin was actually arrested in 1972 after performing his famous "Seven Dirty Words You Can't Say on Television" at Summerfest.

Check out this article from 2007 about this moment in Summerfest history.

I discovered a really cool piece of technology being used at Glastonbury Festival in the United Kingdom this year. The Orange recharge pod is the first mobile phone recharge station that is powered by wind and solar energy.

rechargepodgroup.jpgThe renewable energy source is able to charge multiple cell phones while outdoors away from other sources of electricity. In the article I read - the recharge pod could recharge up to 100 cell phones at once.

I discovered this over at Gizmodo - check the article out below!

08_Lolla_pos_Logo_rgb.jpgLollapalooza - that great festival that takes place August 1st - 3rd in Chicago at Grant Park has just announced their festival schedule this week.

Lollapalooza was originally a farewell tour for the band Jane's Addiction, by Perry Farrell, the singer. The tour was created by Perry in 1991 and ran until 1997. To some, Lollapalooza defined the American youth culture at the time just like Woodstock did for the 1960's.

Updates have been slow around here and I am well aware of this. My day job has really drawn a lot of my time lately as I am transitioning a lot of my work into a new role and new duties.

We also have not entertained our Photo of the Week for some time as well. We have not forgotten about this feature and actually have received a response to our Photo of the Week - No. 12 interview questions! This is really great news!

Thanks again to Wendy Whittemore for supporting Festival Friendly and giving us great responses to our questions. Check them out below!

potw_no12_thumb.jpg

What were you trying to capture in this shot (If anything at all)?
Motion, action, interesting flat light with the radiant blue

How long have you been behind a camera?
Since 1988....

Do you prefer a certain brand of gear?
Well....it depends, I love an old camera to get some interesting effects, medium format, twin lens. Took this with a nikon digital and we also have professional Canon digital equipment. Oh, yeah, I'll point and shoot, too. Anything I have at the moment to capture it.

What is your favorite piece of gear that you own?
Tilt Shift lens for the Canon...fun stuff.

Do you find it troubling to carry equipment around at festivals and still have a decent amount of mobility?
It can get tiring. I use fanny pack style camera bags. I try to go light, point and shoot if needed. I do have shoulder and neck problems from hauling around the twin lens but wouldn't trade those images for anything.

With that said, what do you normally carry with you at a festival?
Stuff I don't mind damaging, point and shoots, high speed film for night shots, no flash, zooms can be great but sometimes the fixed lens makes you work for it.

Additionally, please check my current flickr shots, just got back from Bonnaroo 08...sorry about the delay in replying.

Wendy

This festival is absolutely free and will feature over 18 bands on two stages as well as artwork from over 20 local artists. IMAF was created in 2001 to encourage the expression and promotion of independent artists and musicians.

jambaloosa_cancelled.jpgI'm sorry to have to post this news. Jambaloosa Music and Arts Festival - which we previously posted about has been cancelled. The rumors were flying around, but as of just 30 minutes ago it has been confirmed.

It seems that one of the festival producers was actually a scam and had not secured the actual venue for the festival or the insurance that would be required to hold such an event.

Please read below for a message sent to me by Danny Darvalics. I'm not 100% sure of Danny's involvement in Jambaloosa so I won't post any speculation.

Please find the message and announcement in full, below:

Hi guys,

Sorry this had to happen but Jambaloosa simply wont happen as planned.

Bugsly's Cavern Stage will still happen, Jay Rogovin and myself will be working with Starscape and Steez Promo to put on a truly epic event complete with a dance tent and many other surprises.

Many of you know what happened but most of you don't. We were working with a man named Erick Gross who was the con artist behind Jambaloosa. After several bad decisions and unprofessionalism Jay and I noticed about Erick we looked into his claims. After being told that there were signed land contracts and insurance policies we discovered that pretty much everything Erick Gross was telling us was false.

This was out of our hands and now it seems that Erick has fled the country with all the vendors fees and the money that was loaned for the bands. Jay and I are here left to pick up the pieces and try to complete what we set out to do.

We will throw the sickest party in September and hope you guys come out. If you would like to try to reach Erick Gross you can try at jambaloosa@jambaloosa.com or call him 716 566 9523 but I doubt he will answer. Send him a myspace message and tell him how much of a piece of shit he is and remind him that KARMA IS A BITCH!

There will be more information very soon. If you had bought the presale tickets you WILL recieve a refund. You can visit www.completeticketsolutions.com for refunds.

Again I apologize to all the bands, fans, and vendors who wanted to see Jambaloosa be Pittsburghs first large music festival. Things will iron out in the end, it just takes time.

- Peace

Danny Darvalics
