Photo of the Week - No. 1 Cont'd.

As mentioned this past weekend; our first Photo of the Week selection was made. This is an on-going feature we hope to continue. I personally love photography and enjoy browsing photos; especially of people having a great time at music festivals.

potw_no1_thumb.jpgWe received word back from Sam Rowelsky (rowelsky) about chosing his photo. We have some more information about him as well as the photo. Sam seems like a really great guy; and we appreciate his quick response and support of Festival Friendly.

Our first choice for Photo of the Week, was submitted into our flickr group by a user named rowelsky.

Below is an actual short introduction Sam sent us to include with the photo. Normally I might write a synopsis, but Sam expresses himself much better than I would be able to:

I am currently living in London, but hope to relocate in the next two years to Berlin. I m interested in an anthological perspective and centre my photographic practice as a means to better understand society. Although relatively new to photography, I have had a wide ranging and relatively steep learning curve; essentially building on an undergraduate course in Photographic Arts. I hope I may continue to learn and grow with this new found mimetic art, so wonderfully suited to an otherwise fleeting and ephemeral age we now live in. This is the third year running that I have had the pleasure of being at the Festival, an experience I have enjoyed immensely. The Fusion team are an amazingly dedicated bunch of free spirited people who for the most part are there as unpaid volunteers.

The photo is one in a series of crowd shots taken at the 2007 Fusion Festival just outside Berlin. The series uses the mass of people within the crowd as the frame to enhance the
individual; much the same way we perceive the self in Jacques Lacan’s “Mirror stage”1; i.e. the camera isolates the one amongst the many thus giving the individual the moment of self recognition, the point when the ego might be formed. -

Thanks again to Sam for his participation and we look forward to selecting our next Photo of the Week!
