| | TrackBacks (0)

322_springjam.jpgThanks to a new member of our forum - we were informed of SpringJam at Camp Zoe. The festival takes place in Salem, Missouri - April 18th & 19th.

This is pretty exciting because it close enough that if there are no other conflicts (other festivals) going on during that weekend - then I will be there.

The lineup for the festival looks like this:

  • The Schwag: Grateful Dead Tribute
  • JGB with Melvin Seals
  • Vince Herman & Great American Taxi
  • Woodbox Gang
  • Joseph Israel
  • Easy Riders

SpringJam 4 is open to all ages and has camping onsite, swimming, canoe float trips, drum circles, and bonfires. This is a smaller festival and will offer a very intimate setting for festival-goers.

Tickets are available right now for a very fair price. $50 for 2-day pass and only $40 if you arrive on the 19th.

Check out the official website for further information about SpringJam at Camp Zoe.

I am in fact re-posting an entry that I wrote last week. Why? Because I want to remind everyone of the first festival we will be going to - offcially trying to promote the site and the project. Hookah in the Hills - put on by the band Ekoostik Hookah begins this Friday. Festival Friendly will be there Friday evening. So please support Festivals and come join us!

Hookah in the Hills at Kaeppners Woods is just around the corner. We just discovered this festival and it's only two weeks away. Luckily Hookah in the Hills is only three-and-a-half hours away from Brandt and I in Logan, Ohio.

The festival begins April 4th and ends April 5th. On Friday, the festival will kick off at Noon and will feature two alternate stages this year. This will allow for simultaneous music appreciation for everyone.

  hookah_in_the_hills.jpg

Hookah on the Hill features the band Ekoostik Hookah on both nights as well as many other great artists. Hookah on the Hill is at a new venue this year - it has moved to Kaeppners Woods.

Ryan McGuire will be spinning fire poi and coordinating an entire fire show - as well as putting on a poi workshop Saturday morning.

Hookah on the Hill will also house multiple craft and food vendors, including firewood for sale, beer by the cup or carry out. Hookah on the Hill is going to be a great way to start off the festival season - at least for Festival Friendly it will be. Get there and meet us!

Archive.org Music Downloads

| | TrackBacks (0)

archive_org_logo.jpgMany of you might already know of this website, but my hope is that some of you do not. I didn't until recently and just this weekend realized how much time I could spend on this site.

Archive.org is a non-for-profit organization that was founded to build an Internet Library. The purpose was to offer a place where researchers, historians, could access historical collections that would exist in a digital format. The organization is located in San Francisco, California and has grown to have a couple well-rounded collections that might of interest to festival-goers everywhere.

The first collection that I wanted to mention is the Live Music Archive. This archive is a collection of over 45,000 live concert recordings in a lossless, downloadable format. All of the music in the collection is from trade-friendly artists and is noncommercial. You won't be breaking the law for downloading any of the music from Archive.org.

The other collection from Archive.org that I wanted to suggest was the Grateful Dead section. There are currently over 4,000 live Grateful Dead recordings available for download. That is pretty amazing.

Check out our fifth Photo of the Week selection below. This photo is from another festival from Europe. At least that is a sign we have seen festivals from across the globe in our Flickr pool.

Festival Friendly's fifth choice was taken by Garry' of the Woodford Folk Festival. I don't really know much about this festival currenly, but the photo is fantastic. So far, we have seen mostly photos depicting people - so I'm happy to feature one that does not.

Like in the past, look for a short interview hopefully sometime this week. Be sure to leave comments about the photo also!

We definitely won't turn down any direct submissions though for Photo of the Week. If you would like to submit your own photo or make a suggestion please feel free to send us an e-mail to mail@festivalfriendly.com.

Asheville Music Jamboree

| | TrackBacks (0)

amjam180x150-myspace2_0.jpgJust discovered another music festival taking place over Memorial Day weekend. It will take years to get to all of the Memorial Day weekend festivals - it amazes me at how many their actually are.

Asheville Music Jamboree is not a festival that should be over looked either. AmJam takes place May 23 - 25 at Deerfields just 20 minutes south of Asheville, North Carolina AmJam offers the mega artists and bands that the larger festivals offer, but in a different atmosphere and setting.

AmJam's site is close to a staggering 1,000 acres of space. The site is filled with apple orchards, shade trees, hiking trails, wooded camping areas, streams, ponds and gorgeous backdrops.

Another really interesting fact is the organizers of Asheville Music Jamboree are only making 3,500 tickets available for sale to the public. That is a very small crowd for a festival that takes place on such a large site.

This is on purpose though - as AmJam really strives to create a casual and open space with an extra sense of intimicy for festival goers.

Tickets are currently on sale and can be purchased for $125.00 USD from the following site:
AmJam Ticket Sales

Just yesterday, Asheville Music Jamboree added Keller Williams and The Keels to their lineup. For the current lineup information - follow the jump.

coachella_logo_thumb.gifCoachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has a really interesting option for festival goers this year. They are offering an on-site camping option where festival goers would actually have their own "Tent Hotel" or "Safari Tent" prepared by Coachella.

This exclusive lodging does come at a price and tickets are being sold on a limited basis. The prices do vary, but range from $700 - $4000 depending on the number of people and the options you want inlcuded with your tent.

The tents are over sized, on the festival grounds and pre-furnished with sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, etc. Another really great feature that Coachella offers fans who choose the luxury camping option will also be served breakfast from 7:00AM - 11:00AM each day. There will even be a massage therapist available for an added fee.

Please check out the official Coachella Onsite Lodging page for further information.

Festival Friendly - Daily Festival News Discussion

Earlier today, the event producers of Movement 08: DEMF (Detroit Electronic Music Festival) made an official announcement. In this announcement they mentioned two very big sponsors of this years festivities. Red Bull Music Academy will be joining up and setting up shop where the Pyramid Stage once stood. Their stage will feature many of the great DJs and producers I mentioned before. The Red Bull Music Academy stage will include performances by: Newcleus, Egyptian Lover, Shawn Michaels, James Zabiela, Benny Bennassi, The Cool Kids, Girl Talk, DATABASS (featuring Godfather), Justin Kruse, Tech Itch and Dieselboy.

And who hasn't heard of MySpace by now? They are joining DEMF as a media partner. MySpace's interest in working with the Movement Festival validates an already well known fact - Detroit's Electronic Music Festival is an event that is continuing to grow and attract attention on a worldwide scale.

As if that wasn't enough, the crew at Paxahau are stepping up this years game production wise. Expect to see some improvements in the sound on the main stage as well as weather structures to protect festival-goers, should rain or some other weather take place.

"We have taken great measures to bring the production to an even higher level," says Mike Fotias, Movement Production Manager, "We understand that attendees come here expecting nothing but the best and we are determined to deliver."

The last thing that was mentioned is that they will be bringing back the UNDERGROUND STAGE! I remember being there last year and my buddy Chris informed me that during previous years, they actually had a stage down here. I couldn't see why they would skip out last year, but its great to know that the festival continues to evolve and bring new talent from the world over.

We here at FestivalFriendly simply cannot wait for this truly amazing experience.

Santa Fe Music Festival

| | TrackBacks (0)

santa_fe_music_fest.jpgSanta Fe Music Festival was announced quite some time ago for 2008 - but I just discovered thier website earlier this week. Yet another really promising music festival in the United States. Santa Fe Music Festival takes place in Santa Fe, New Mexico - August 8th - 10th.

This is the 2nd year that Santa Fe Music Fest has taken place. A New Mexico company called Kaos Productions has produced the festival since it's inception.

Thier is no official lineup information currently available that I could find - but the Festival promises to host many Grammy Award winning and platinum selling artists and DJs. Last year, Santa Fe Music Festival featured over 150 musicians from various genres. The line up should be finalized and announced this Spring (any day now).

Ticket information will also be released at that time as well.

jambase_dotcom_logo.gifJambase.com has graced us with another great article showcasing a music festival. This one though, was in Amsterdam of all places. Jam in the Dam took place this past week in Amsterdam - March 16th - 19th.

Jam in the Dam Article

Jam in the Dam, features bands from the States such as Dark Star Orchestra, Umphrey's McGee, Tea Leaf Green, Lotus, and the Disco Biscuits.

I don't want to get into the specifics of the festival itself, but am posting this because I thought the photography within the article was exceptional and very inspiring. Photographers were Sam Friedman and Dave Vann - they did a great job.

Check it out and give those guys some feedback and praise!

Festival Friendly Forums!

| | TrackBacks (0)

Festival Friendly is really excited for this announcement. We have been working to get a web forum online for the past week or so. Brandt and I turned it on last night and added it to our side bar menu which you can see pictured below.

forums_news_sidebar.jpg

We realize the sidebar doesn't seem to attract the eye of the user that well so we will be working on our navigation system over the next few months. I can't stand when I talk to someone about the website and they haven't seen a section simply because they had no idea where to look. We want these sections to pop out at the users.

Regardless, the Festival Friendly Forums are online and ready for everyone to sign up and start a discussion! Please check out our forums, and go introduce yourself in the New Member Introductions section.

We also have eliminated comments on our news entries. I will post a more detailed explanation later, but we are moving all discussion to the forums.

If you signed up to make comments on our site in the previous month-and-a-half - you will have to sign up again with our forum software. This will be the last time that we request that from you!

Thanks again - we look forward to chatting with everyone on the forums.

Seattle Hempfest

| | TrackBacks (0)

2006-benefit_hempfest_seattle.jpgCheck out the Seattle Hempfest which - you might have guessed it - takes place in Seattle, Washington. Seattle Hempfest takes place in August from the 16 - 17.

In 2007, the festival hosted dozens of speakers, and just as many artists, bands, and performers throughout the event.

Seattle Hempfest strives to promote human rights, equality, and freedom. Even though Hempfest does support industrial hemp, and medical marijuana - they believe in freedom first.

It's also interesting to note that a majority of the bands playing at the festival do not even get paid - there are over 1,000 volunteers during the week that come together to make this event be successful.

Check out the official website for further information about the festival. There have not been any announcements in regards to the lineup or ticket sales. Keep checking back for that information.
