Golden Plains Music Festival

Golden Plains Music Festival, which is actually held in Australia at The Meredith Supernatural Ampitheatre is almost here!  The festival runs from March 8th thru the 10th - and the festival is completely sold out according to their website.

220px-Ween_in_Edmonton_Alberta.jpgOne of my favorite bands Ween will be playing there though.

Thanks to easily distracted from our flickr group for pointing this out.

Hopefully we will have some photos up after the festival for everyone to check out.

ROTHBURY Part Duex

220px-Jon&Trey.JPGI failed to mention this in a previous post about the ROTHBURY Music Festival, but is really exciting for me.  John Fishman, the drummer from Phish, will be at the festival playing with the Yonder Mountain String Band.

The ROTHBURY Music Festival is held in Rothbury, Michigan in July from the 3rd - 6th.

In doing a bit of research I found out that PHISH was actually named after Fishman.  PHISH fans would recognize him for the poko dotted dress he would always wear on stage during shows.

cma_fest.gifThe Country Music Festival tickets are selling out fast.  I came across an official press release that mentioned they are selling tickets at record paces.  They are up 14% compared to last year in sales at this point in time.  It’s interesting to see the popularity of music festivals raise each year.  The CMA festival ticket sales are up 38% from the year 2006.

The Country Music Festival is held annually in downtown Nashville, Tennessee and is being held Thursday through Sunday, June 5-8, 2008.  The official press release from February 2nd, 2008 states that festival organizers are expecting more than 191,000 music festival fans to attend.

The event, which spans over a four day period; features 35 hours of artist autograph signing, 100 hours of live music, and over 400 Country musicians and celebrities will also be in attendance.

Tickets for the Country Music Festival can be purchased from: www.CMAfest.com

HighSierraMusicFestival.jpgThe legendary Mike Gordon, bassist from Phish, has been confirmed as part of the line-up for the 2008 High Sierra Music Festival.  This was announced officially today - Mike will be playing along with his own band.  The last time he played at High Sierra Music Festival was in 2005.

Mike Gordon is also proficient at the banjo, piano, harmonica, percussion, and guitar.  He is also an award-winning filmmaker.

Michael Franti and Spearhead were also announced today as new additions to the line-up.  Ironically, the last time they played at this festival was in 2005 as well.

As previously mentioned, the festival is being held in Quincy, California and runs from July 3rd - 6th, 2008.  I won't be making it to the west coast just yet, but this festival promises to be a great time.

This just in! Bonnaroo has announced the following additions to the 2008 lineup:
  • Cat Power
  • Zappa Plays Zappa
  • The Disco Biscuits
  • MSTRKRFT
  • Chromeo

Bonnaroo has also announced that Phil Lesh & Friends and My Morning Jacket will both be special late night shows on the Which Stage! Following the tradition of historic past performances from artists such as The Flaming Lips, Primus, and Trey Anastasio, these epic performances have been known to last until the early signs of morning.

In under an hour, the special $199 early-bird weekend tickets have sold out! If you missed out on this opportunity, don't worry. You can still get yourself some tickets, but at the regular rate of $244.75. Rothbury’s weekend ticket includes a wristband for the entire weekend, plus parking and camping Thursday through Sunday.

rothburylineup_pos.jpgTickets go on sale tomorrow (Wednesday) at Noon EST for the Rothbury Music Festival.  These will be early-bird tickets ($199.00/each) and are being sold on a limited basis.  Once they sell out the price will jump to ($244.75).

The festival is being hosted at the Double JJ Ranch in Rothbury, Michigan and begins July 3rd and ends the 6th.  The festival site offers trails, and is close to lakes and beach fronts.  There is even on-site lodging which I was surprised to see for a music festival.

Here is a list of confirmed artists that I captured from the Rothbury Myspace profile:

Dave Matthews Band, Widespread Panic, John Mayer, 311, Phil Lesh and Friends, Modest Mouse, Primus, Snoop Dogg, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Thievery Corporation, STS9 and many others.

Both DEMF and Rothbury are being held in Michigan so I will be making it there twice this summer.  Thankfully we live in Indianapolis and both festivals are around five hour trips.  Let us know if you will be at either festival.  We would love meet up with you!

Dates have been announced for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival 2008. DEMF 2008 will commence Memorial Day weekend, on May 24th and continue until May 26th. The artist line-up has not yet been announced. Judging from last year--which I had the opportunity to attend--they featured many great electronic producers and DJs such as Charles Webster, Richie Hawtin, Bad Boy Bill and main act, Booka Shade.

DEMF typically runs from noon each day and ends at midnight due to the fact that is it in the "heart" of downtown Detroit, Hart Plaza. If you feel like partying until the wee hours of the morning, there are plenty of options ranging from unofficial after parties to club nights at some of Detroit's most sought after nightclubs, such as Bleu Room.

Here are two videos I took during Booka Shade's performance last year: Linky 1, Linky 2. Last year was my first time @ DEMF and I have already booked my hotel rooms for this year. You should do the same!

Check back for when they announce artists for DEMF 2008!

I came across this festival tonight and was very excited to find a festival on the East Coast.  The All Points West Music & Arts Festival has already announced it's official line-up and has scored some great artists to headline each night.

allpointsFestival_mainPoster.jpg The Festival will take place August 8 - 10th at Liberty State Park in New Jersey and will feature Radiohead as headliners both Friday and Saturday night.  Jack Johnson will be throwing it down on Sunday evening to finish out the festival.

This festival boasts an amazing back drop.  Liberty State Park is located in Jersey City, New Jersey along the Hudson Rivers with views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the Manhattan skyline.  These perks alone make this festival one that I really don't want to miss!

Tickets for the festival will only be available through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com) and go on sale this Friday, the 29th.
Single day passes will cost you $89 and three-day passes are $258; which I don't think includes taxes and surcharge fees.

The event is being touted as a "green" festival and will feature those who make efforts to conserve.  For example, anyone who carpools to the festival will have access to on-site parking and this space is limited to be sure to look at their official website for further information.

The following is from an official artist line-up from the All Points West Festival.  :

The ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL LINE-UP (as of 2/21) is as follows: Radiohead, Jack Johnson, Underworld, Kings of Leon, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Cat Power, The Roots, The New Pornographers, Youssou N'Dour, Animal Collective, Andrew Bird, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Metric, CSS, Girl Talk, Chromeo, The Go! Team, Amadou & Mariam, The Black Angels, Sia, The Felice Brothers, K'Naan, Jason Isbell, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Alberta Cross, The Virgins, Black Kids, Mates of State, Duffy, Forro in the Dark, Nicole Atkins, Juana Molina, Little Brother, Rogue Wave, Neil Halstead and Your Vegas.

The Virgin Mobile Festival will be returning to Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.  The festival is held August 9th - 10th and is a festival that has it's roots in the U.K. before debuting in the United States in 2006.  Last year the festival was very succesful and had artists such as The Smashing Pumpkins and The Police

It seems that there has not be an official announcement in regards to the 2008 line-up, but I found an article that mentions it should be within the coming weeks.

The V Festival, as it is known in England began as a rock festival, but has crossed genres and has even invited such artists as N.E.R.D and Dido.  It's interesting to note that not only has the festival spun off to the United States, but it is held annually in Australia as well.

Festival Friendly - Daily Festival News Discussion

Earlier this week; High Sierra Mountain Festival announced an update to their line-up.  They are proud to have Bob Weir & RatDog added to their arsenal of great bands and music greats.

Bob Weir - an original founding member of The Grateful Dead - started the RatDog experience in 1995 just shortly before Jerry Garcia passed away and The Grateful Dead dispersed.  From their own website, RatDog “has evolved from a blues revue into a musical fusion of backgrounds and talents; complex, energetic, and adventurous.”

The 18th Annual High Sierra Music Festival is held annually in Quincy, California.
July 3 - 6, 2008

The Festival is 4 days, 4 nights, and over 75 artists on 5 stages along with activities that suit everyone’s idea of fun.
